The CryptoVend Card from
CardLogix uses proven cryptography to secure the card against fraudulent use or
duplication. This technology, Symmetric Key Processing (SKP) was developed to provide
simple security at a low cost compared to applications where extreme sensitivity of data
requires more elaborate and costly measures. High-volume retail and vending applications,
such as pay telephones, laundromats and copy/PC centers, are ideally suited for card that
is safer than cash or mag-stripe cards and secures relatively low cost transactions.
Cryptography is basically a set of mathematical
algorithms used to implement security functions user access and protection against fraud.
These functions are: Data integrity, Authentication, Non-Repudiation and Confidentiality.
With SKP, a user is assigned a numeric value that is hashed via specific
equation into a large 64bit number.
This hashing process produces a signers private
key that uniquely opens access to card data and use. The Key, or Digital
Signature Algorithm, must be matched to an isssers version of this private key with
data that exactly corresponds. When a precise match is achieved, the four security
functions listed above are completed within nanoseconds. With the CryptoVend card, this
involves a user inserting the card in a reader, then proceeding with a stored value
transaction, for example, the purchase of ten copies at a self-serve copier.
Symmetrical Key Processing has been used for years within the industry-accepted Data
Encryption Standard (DES) that conforms to millions of P.O.S. card readers currently
installed. With the CardLogix CryptoVend Card, Issuers can create a streamlined, secure
vending system that users can easily access.
