When someone wants to vote in an election, there are many points of data and transactions that must take place. Many U.S. states, including Georgia have found a way to reliably capture, store, and transact voter IDs, with the help of CardLogix smart cards.
In addition to verifying a voter’s identity, residence and eligibility to vote, poll workers provide each voter with a ballot appropriate to their location, (precinct) party affiliation, and language. Traditionally, the voter goes through a series of steps, and papers, to confirm or update this information, which is repetitious and time consuming. Even though many states have upgraded to electronic voting, the paper shuffle that precedes it can remain.
Many states have moved to a CardLogix voter smart card and reader system (Diebold or
Election Systems & Software) that improves the accuracy and speed of the check-in process. Name and registration data are pre-loaded into the card and presented to the voter at check-in. The card is read and the data displayed for the voter to verify or update. Once this is done, the voter quickly moves on to their appropriate ballot and votes. Votes that are cast are not part of the smart card system and are never accessed or recorded.
Like Georgia, many states have evolved their voting process to better serve their citizens, while improving privacy and accuracy, with CardLogix smart cards.
