MARCH 10, 2007 — Datastrip announced today that its DSVII-SC handheld biometric/ID card reader can now display surveillance camera video, maps and other remote data needed for security and emergency response, using wireless visual intelligence technology from AirVisual. The enhancement extends the DSVII’s capabilities by enabling the unit to be used for both mobile identity verification — its original purpose — and for connectivity to key video and map data in the field. It also offers a strong new FIPS 201-compliant hardware option for AirVisual’s platform.

Remote Security Intelligence
Now available as an embedded add-on for the DSVII-SC, AirVisual’s IntelliViewer technology can provide remote access to the user’s choice of real-time and archived video playback from surveillance cameras, GPS and GIS maps, building floor plans, sensor alarms, and other data that traditionally was available only in the command center. All information can be displayed on the Datastrip unit’s built-in color touch screen.

Having this information accessible directly on the DSVII-SC can improve emergency response to security breaches and crisis situations in any environment, including buildings, chemical or power plants, sports and entertainment complexes, school and corporate campuses, airports, seaports, and incidents with no defined security perimeter.

AirVisual’s architecture allows data to be transmitted or retrieved over any commercial or proprietary wireless network, including GSM, GPRS, CDMA and digital cellular networks used by law enforcement agencies. Users can also request specific views of any camera, receive alert messages, view other users as tracked objects on a map, and communicate with other responding personnel using AirVisual’s SMS engine.

Complementary Systems
“With the addition of AirVisual’s technology, our DSVII-SC becomes the first handheld device that enables public safety and private security professionals to perform mobile identity checks and receive time-sensitive visual security information with a single piece of hardware,” said Neil Fallon, Datastrip’s commercial sales director. “This not only increases the versatility of our unit but also marks a major advance in mobile security.”

“Datastrip’s DSVII-SC offers an important new option for law enforcement agencies and other organizations that are interested in using our IntelliViewer technology to increase their effectiveness in emergency situations,” said Fred Lardaro, AirVisual’s executive director, business development. “By combining the strengths of Datastrip’s hardware with our software, we are providing a powerful new tool for enhancing public safety and homeland security.”

Datastrip’s DSVII-SC is a lightweight handheld device that combines a contact/contactless smart card reader for reading ID cards, a 500 dpi fingerprint sensor for instant matching to a biometric template, and a large color touch screen display that is readable in direct sunlight or low-light conditions. The unit has been approved for purchase by federal agencies under the General Services Administration’s FIPS 201 evaluation program for personal identity verification (PIV) of federal employees, contractors and first responders under Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).
