Sunnyvale, CA, and Arlington, VA, September 20, 2004 — Datastrip Corporation, a leading provider of software, hardware, and biometric verification devices, has selected the Fujitsu MBF200 single-touch fingerprint sensor for use in its portable biometric smart card reader, the DSVII®-SC.The Datastrip DSVII®-SC verifies identities by reading contact and contactless chips on ID cards, passports, driver’s licenses and other personal documents. Weighing only two pounds, the portable biometric smart card reader is designed specifically for maximum portability.

This compact, handheld Windows CE.NET unit incorporates a smart card reader with the MBF200 single-touch sensor, which delivers clear 500dpi fingerprint images and provides fast matching to local biometric templates. The 8-bit grayscale fingerprint image is delivered to a large color digital touch-screen display readable in direct sunlight or low light conditions. The DSVII®-SC also supports internal wireless communication for data and encrypted fingerprint transmission for identity search and verification against a back-end system.

The MBF200 fingerprint sensor from Fujitsu Microelectronics America (FMA) provides a 256 x 300 pixel sensor array. The image area is 12.8mm x 15mm (0.5″ x 0.6″). The sensor also features a durable protective coating, high ESD tolerance and integrated, two-stage, 8-bit A/D converter to output the 8-bit greyscale image data directly from the MBF200 sensor. The MBF200 interfaces include USB, SPI and 8-bit MCU.

“The DSVII®-SC is ideal for a broad range of verification applications,” said Mike Chaudoin, senior marketing manager of FMA’s Biometric Products Group. “Due to its size, speed, and versatility, this impressive new handheld system is appropriate for virtually any mobile identity verification situation. The Fujitsu MBF200 single-touch sensor has played a key role in the success of Datastrip’s exciting design.”

“The Fujitsu MBF200 delivers the features and high reliability required for our DSVII®-SC system, which has been designed for secure, mobile, identity verification in locations where stationary equipment cannot be used,” said Steve Blackmore, Datastrip Chief Executive Officer. “The market reception to the DSVII®-SC has been excellent, and we are very pleased with the performance of the MBF200 single-touch sensor in the system.”
