Gemplus, the world’s leading provider of smart card-based solutions, today announces the worldwide launch of emXplore Trust, an enhanced SIM card platform for end-to-end mobilecommerce security. GemXplore Trust addresses the rapid growth in demand for mobile commerce applications.
Enhanced SIM card platform with Public Key Security Smart card technology is being universally adopted as the only trustworthy solution for mobile commerce security. Building on more than a decade of experience as the world’s leading smart card solutions provider, and creator of GemXplore, the most popular SIM card operating system in the world, Gemplus has developed GemXplore Trust. The value of GemXplore Trust goes beyond that of a security platform, as Patrick Imbert, Gemplus Mobile Commerce Manager, points out, “GemXplore Trust not only provides Public Key (PK) technology to secure a new generation of wireless transactions but is also a solid foundation on which to build new mobile services. GemXplore Trust brings the mobile phone one step closer to being our most trusted personal device.”
Trusted infrastructure
Transaction security is a priority and Public Key-enabled smart cards provide the solution. Imbert says, “The full potential of mobile commerce will be realised only when there is a bond of Trust between the mobile operator and the customer. GemXplore Trust enables mobile operators to provide a trusted infrastructure for mobile transactions, positioning themselves at the focal point of the Mobile Internet value chain by forming a vital bond of Trust with subscribers.” .
Trust Gemplus
GemXplore Trust is an enhanced SIM card with an on-board cryptographic engine. This engine provides a library of cryptographic functions which can be accessed by standard SIM Toolkit applications to allow the easy creation of PKI client applications on the SIM card. GemXplore Trust uses the universally accepted 1024 bit RSA algorithm which has resisted cryptographic attacks by industry experts for over 20 years. GemXplore Trust also provides advanced anti-SPA and anti-DPA protection for maximum security. The implementation of any PKI-based application requires the service of a Certificate Authority. Gemplus is also positioned to provide this service.
A flexible m-commerce toolbox
GemXplore Trust is STK phase 2+ compatible, and is built on the world’s most popular SIM operating system, with more than 200 million GemXplore SIM cards delivered worldwide. 32 kbytes of EEPROM is provided for storing STK applications and, with the full support of Public Key functions provided in GemXplore CASE, GemXplore Trust is the ultimate flexible toolbox for the development of secure mobile commerce solutions.
Gemplus’ off-the-shelf mobile commerce applications
Gemplus already has several off-the-shelf mobile commerce applications which run on GemXplore Trust: · WIM, the smart card-based mobile commerce client for WAP 1.2 and beyond S@T browser with PK functionality · SmartTrust SmartSignature, a secure PKI client for digital signatures which works with Sonera SmartTrust’s mobile PKI solutions · others to be announced in the future.
Mobile commerce leader Gemplus is one of the leading players in the mobile commerce arena. · founder member of Radicchio (www.radicchio.org) · founder member of SIMalliance (www.simalliance.org) · member of the WAP Forum and chair of the Smart Card Expert Group (www.wapforum.org) · major contributor to ETSI standardisation working groups (www.etsi.org).
