Gemalto has unveiled its innovative Instant Badge Issuance (IBI) solution at TECH•ED NORTH AMERICA 2008. Designed to complement Microsoft’s Identity and Access solutions, IBI empowers enterprises to create secure, personalized employee identity badges locally and efficiently.
The IBI system streamlines badge production by integrating directly with Microsoft Active Directory and Identity Lifecycle Manager. It enables the seamless loading of digital certificates onto smart cards, producing a unified badge that provides logical access and physical access control (PACS). Beyond its security features, IBI also supports the printing of high-quality graphics and the encoding of applications on magnetic stripes or ISO 14443-compliant contactless chips.
Gemalto’s IBI solution includes a smart card badge printer and a comprehensive provisioning and personalization system. Together, these components simplify the issuance process into a single, efficient, and secure step. The system handles ID card printing, encodes Microsoft-generated PKI (Public-Key Infrastructure) certificates onto the smart card module, and programs contactless chips or magnetic stripes for enhanced access control. Additionally, it supports customizable card templates for various user types, including employees, contractors, and visitors, along with photo capture capabilities for professional-grade designs.
When paired with Gemalto .NET smart cards, the IBI solution ensures seamless integration into secure identity management systems. This is made possible by the native support for .NET card technology in both Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows Server 2008.
With its focus on security, efficiency, and customization, Gemalto’s Instant Badge Issuance (IBI) system sets a new standard for enterprise identity management.
