SUNNYVALE, CA — 10/05/10 — QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the leader in low power Customer Specific Standard Products (CSSPs), has expanded its Proven System Block (PSB) library with the addition of a Secure Access Module (SAM) Controller. It supports the ISO 7816 Smart Card Standard as well as all modes of the High Speed Protocol (HSP) versions. OEMs can expand the number of different smart card applications their products can support when QuickLogic integrates the SAM Controller into a CSSP.
“There is typically one Secure Access Module required for each service provided by a point-of-sale (POS) terminal. As these POS systems integrate more services, host processors may not support enough SAM controllers, or they may not support the latest High Speed protocols,” said Brian Faith, QuickLogic’s vice president of worldwide marketing. “Our new SAM Controller PSB solves this problem without requiring multiple discrete devices to be added to the design.”
“QuickLogic’s system architecture, silicon customization and software development expertise enabled Inventec Appliance Corporation (IAC) to deliver POS systems with support for multiple, High Speed SAMs,” said Paulina Song, Business Unit Head of IAC. “QuickLogic’s High Speed SAM Controller PSB, the inherent hardware flexibility in CSSPs and the collaborative nature of the CSSP engagement model enabled IAC to adapt our system architecture as our end customer changed their product requirements during the development cycle.”
QuickLogic’s CSSP design approach and extensive PSB library allow OEMs to obtain a solution for virtually any host processor, a customized peripheral that implements a mix of connectivity interfaces such as High Speed USB 2.0, SD/eMMC, SDIO, and others. The new SAM Controller PSB adds secure smart card connectivity to the list, meeting the ISO 7816 Standard for smart card interfaces and supporting both modes of the High Speed Protocol.
Availability
The SAM Controller PSB has been system-verified compliant with Microsoft’s Embedded CE 6.0 Test Kit (CETK) and is available today for inclusion in any of QuickLogic’s CSSP platforms, including the ArcticLink® and PolarPro® platform families.
