Futronic FS82 Fingerprint Scanner and Smart Card Reader combines the sophistication of the Futronic FS80 fingerprint scanner with an ISO 7816, EMV 200 compliant smart card reader. With the addition of the smart card reader, ANSI 378 fingerprint images can be stored on the smart card, enabling 2-factor authentication for enhanced security and reliability in your biometric solution.

The FS82 fingerprint scanner hardware is identical to FS80, with a sophisticated CMOS sensor and precise optical technology to deliver high quality fingerprint images. Futronic FS82 leverages the latest in biometric technology, including Live Fingerprint Detection, Infrared LEDs, and a rugged sensor making it an ideal solution for secure logical access, physical access control (PACS), voter IDs, military IDs, employee identification, and any other biometric identification application that requires a high speed, security and reliability.

The unit can be purchased as a standalone item or as part of the Micro Booking Station (MBS), a complete biometric enrollment solution for easy and portable face, iris, signature and fingerprint enrollment and verification. It is also available with CardLogix M.O.S.T. Toolz™ Biometric SDK with source code, powerful middleware, demonstration programs, and everything you need for creating fingerprint applications on the FS82 fingerprint smart card reader and the M.O.S.T. Card® Microprocessor Smart Card.

Two-Factor Biometric Smart Card Authentication

Combining an ultra-high security ID Credential, such as an AES-protected microprocessor-based smart card, with a biometric component, such as a fingerprint, provides a stronger identification solution than if a biometric were to be used alone. The fingerprint image can be stored on a network or, for even stronger reliability, stored securely in one of the smart card’s internal CPU-controlled user memory files. The fingerprint image is logically compared to a newly captured fingerprint image. When advanced security features and encryption algorithms are used, such as those found within the M.O.S.T. Card® Microprocessor Smart Card, users can be confident that the images stored on the card will not be used fraudulently or altered.

Reliable, High Speed Fingerprint Capture

Futronic FS82 is equipped with multiple features to enhance fingerprint capture reliability, providing virtually undistorted raw fingerprint images into a PC at a high speed of 100ms.

With Futronic FS82, problematic fingerprints, such as those that are wet, blurred or dry, can be reliably scanned. The fingerprint scanner is illuminated by 4 infrared LEDs, and the light intensity is automatically adjusted according to the fingerprint’s characteristics to optimize fingerprint image quality for a variety of skin types.

Rugged, Thick Fingerprint Sensor

FS82 features a robust fingerprint sensor constructed of crown glass with a thickness of 14mm. The sensor is designed for rugged environments, such as in-the-field military ID verification, while offering an extended product lifespan.

Live Finger Detection (LFD) to Prevent Fraudulent Use of Artificial Fingers

Futronic FS82 ensures that only living human tissue is enrolled and authenticated with the Live Finger Detection (LFD). This patent-pending technology was developed by Futronic Technology Co. Ltd. to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data or valuable assets by the use of fraudulent, artificial fingerprints made from silicone, rubber, play-doh, and other materials. LFD is performed by a special electronic circuit built into the reader. The signal is emitted underneath the human skin with a unique algorithm to differentiate the returned signal of live human finger from that of other material. The LFD feature is included in all Futronic’s standard software.

Futronic FS82 Software Compatibility

Futronic FS82 has a USB 2.0 plug and play compatible interface. The Futronic FS82 fingerprint scanner 2.0 driver supports Android, Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, CE 5.0 and 6.0, and Mac OS.

FS82 is preconfigured to work with RAVEN Biometric Enrollment and Verification Software by Corvus Integration, Inc.

For custom applications, FS82 can be developed with fingerprint recognition software development kits (SDKs) provided by Futronic Technology to create fingerprint matching software solutions capable of performing biometric verification, identification, and enrollment functions.

For 2-Factor Authentication using smart card technology, the FS82 reader is supported by a full suite of software tools, smart cards and applications from CardLogix Corporation, including the sophisticated M.O.S.T. Smart Card Biometric Verification and Financial Payment Solution

Due to the large storage capacity and advanced file types found within a M.O.S.T. Card® smart card, (which offers up to 144k bytes of EEPROM), identity programs can combine ultra-high security biometric modalities with other applications all on the same card. In addition to its role in 2-factor authentication for reliable cardholder identification, the card can also act as a high security debit/credit card in banking applications with record keeping capabilities using EMV-level session key-based E-Purse files, linear files, and cyclical files.

Futronic FS82 is EMV 200 compliant, making it the perfect complement to the M.O.S.T. Card Microprocessor Smart Card for high security financial payment applications and many others.
