ILM-LS/DS
High speed lamination for secure ID cards
Hologram printing with Matica laminating modules
Hologram printing is a premium security measure to upgrade the level of forgery protection and generally increase the lifetime of your cards. Once slow, costly and complex, this procedure has become significantly faster and more cost-effective with modern industrial hologram printers. The Matica EDIsecure® Inline Lamination Modules work with regular as well as holographic laminate to offer you maximum flexibility.
The ILM-LS model is capable of high-speed single-sided lamination, while the robust ILM-DS takes care of double-sided lamination. With as little as 16 seconds per card for one-sided and 30 seconds for double-sided lamination, these are also the fastest laminating modules available on the market. Both models rely on heat and pressure to bind a transparent film to the card’s surface. This film can be clear, matte or holographic, based on your needs.
How does a hologram printer work?
The hologram printing technique creates an illusion of depth: a two-dimensional image appears to be three-dimensional depending on how the light falls onto it. Since it is not yet possible to create an actual 3D image on a flat surface, the industrial hologram printing relies on holographic laminate that is similarly thermally bound to a card’s surface. A hologram printer can use pre-printed standardized holograms (such as Matica’s EDIsecure ribbons), as well as custom holograms that are exclusively made to match your specifications.
Use hologram printing for maximum forgery protection
It is no coincidence that custom holograms are widely applied to sensitive documents, such as employee or security badges, along with debit or credit cards. Similarly, governmental documents – for instance, driving licenses, national IDs and passports – rely on holographic printing to protect these documents from illicit copying.
As a security measure, hologram printing is extremely difficult to reproduce without reference to the original master hologram. Furthermore, conventional printing methods, such as simple photocopying or printing, cannot stand the pace to a holographic printer. Therefore, reproduced holograms often stand out visually and a professional can usually spot a counterfeit card with the naked eye. In sum, holographic printing is a reliable forgery prevention measure.
As an added benefit, holographic laminate is visually striking and can contribute to the perceived value, as well as provide a higher level of security to your customers.
Optimize costs and card lifetime with a holographic printer
An additional “side effect” of holographic printing using a lamination module is the increased durability of your cards. Whether clear, matte or holographic – a laminate boosts the resistance of your cards towards water damage and tampering, so you can avoid reissuing replacement cards as often.
The EDIsecure® Inline Lamination Modules can be seamlessly combined with Matica’s regular ID card printers. For instance, the appropriate joining plate is all you need to attach it to XID8300 or XID8600 Retransfer Card Printer. The modules’ compact sizes and the availability of single or double sided-models offer you additional flexibility to match your budget and requirements. Thus, you can create tamper-resistant cards with an extra level of counterfeit protection.
