January 1st, 2005 — French smart card manufacturer Axalto has launched a smart card that is based on Microsoft’s .Net technology, in a move that could make it easier for corporations to develop robust smart card-based security. The first commercial use of the Cryptoflex .NET card will be to safeguard Microsoft’s corporate networks and buildings. The roll out will take place this year replacing the Indala-brand smart cards that are now used by more than 55,000 Microsoft employees for remote authentication to the network.
