The Innovonics patented PC Pay® device and CardLogix multifunction smart card platform enables hospitals, doctors and insurers to access and update medical records and process payments via a combination smart/credit/debit card reader and third-party software. Now, vital healthcare administrative functions can be performed more securely with smart card authentication and more conveniently using a single, compact desktop device. The announcement was made at the HIMSS tradeshow, where CardLogix and Innovonics are demonstrating the solution at Booth 1138. The Innovonics PC Pay card reader combines in a single device the convenience of electronic payment and the tremendous security and the processing power of smart cards. The CardLogix smart card stores and synchronizes data from patient medical records, central database and benefit status, using advanced encryption to secure all information. Access to card data is granted via mutual authentication, a security measure that verifies patient identity and user identity to guarantee privacy and guard against fraud. The device can also be configured to work with credit card and debit card payment networks, so that billing and payment transactions are securely performed and automatically updated to patient and benefits records residing on the same card. Additional applications include loading prescriptions onto the card that allows pharmacists to read the data with clarity, helping prevent the possibility of patients getting the wrong medications, thus lowering the liability to the doctor, pharmacist and insurance providers.
Easy Integration With Current Systems
The PC Pay smart card device considerably enhances records and billing by leveraging existing computer infrastructures. Innovonics offers PC Pay® Developer Kits with several interface software choices for the creation and management of a custom payment and smart card system. Each kit also includes CardLogix’ Winplex®, a powerful 32-bit Application Program Interface (API) with support for Visual Basic, Visual C++ and Delphi.
Price and Delivery
Developer kits are currently available and include two PC Pay devices, five smart cards, interface software and documentation. The PC Pay developer kits that include CardLogix’ Winplex® API are currently $789 each. The kits can be purchased from both CardLogix and Innovonics.
