The Ingress Protection Code or IP Code, IEC standard 60529, sometimes interpreted as International Protection Code, classifies and rates the degree of protection provided by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures against intrusion, dust, accidental contact, and water. It is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The equivalent European standard is EN 60529. IP Rating is composed of two digits. The first number in the rating refers to resistance to ingress of solid foreign objects, and the second number represents resistance to ingress of liquids. protection against solids, and the second number refers to protection against liquids. The highest possible rating is IP68.
