CLI (Changeable laser image) is created by engraving two images into a card at 2 different angles. This creates a morphing image on the smart card when viewed at different angles, similar to a holographic type image. This requires a special card body with a lenticular area on the card to accept the laser engraving at the two different angles. Typically, CLI is tilted on the lateral axis, or short axis of the card. In order to make a CLI image, it requires a card laser engraver to be equipped with special CLI hardware and software. Related to CLI is MLI (Multiple laser image), MLI is similar engraving technology to CLI, but instead of engraving in a lenticular motion, MLI engraves in a longitudinal axis.
