Microprocessor Smart Card

A microprocessor smart card is defined as an IC chip contact or contactless card with a microprocessor and memory. A microprocessor smart card can add, delete, and manipulate information in its memory on the card.

Like a miniature computer, a microprocessor card has an input/output port operating system and a hard disk with built-in security features such as encryption capabilities. Common types of microprocessor smart cards are Java Card, MIFARE DESFire and MULTOS cards.
